Cops, AMC officers beaten up on duty

In two different incidents, police and AMC officials bore the brunt of public ire while on duty.

Late on Sunday night, a complaint was lodged with Sardarnagar police station against seven accused after they attacked sub-inspector RJ Barot and two constables. The incident took place at around 11:45 pm near Kubernagar railway crossing.

According to the police, three cops reached the spot after they got a control message regarding loud music. They saw that a marriage procession was on and asked the DJ to lower the volume. The accused then abused the cops and asked them to get lost. When cops tried to book the DJ but were attacked by a mob. The police control room was alerted and three cops were rescued. They were severely injured and were rushed to hospital.

Nirajkumar Badgujar, DCP Zone-4, said, "We have registered complaint against seven people for assaulting an on-duty police officer. All accused are absconding and search for them is on."

In another incident at Rabarivas area in Odhav on Monday afternoon, a team of AMC officials and cops were attacked by a mob of around 200 people after the officials impounded their cattle. The mob started vandalising four police vehicles and pelting stones on the officers. A drive was being conducted by AMC and police to catch cattle roaming the city. More police personnel were called in and the mob was lathi charged to get them to disperse. The cops detained a total of 36 people from the spot.

COPS ATTACKED

In one incident, cops were attacked by a mob when they tried to stop a DJ from playing loud music and violating the 11 pm deadline. In another incident, AMC officials and cops were beaten up by cattle owners after the officers impounded the cattle.
