The current sleek and light Apple iPhone was larger and thicker when was undergoing development, newly surfaced photos have shown.

Tech site Ars Technica obtained pictures from a former Apple staffer of what it is calling "a super-early iPhone prototype," circa 2005..

The pictures revealed a fascinating look at how the device looked while it was still being tested, Mashable reports.

According to the report, the most striking aspect of the pictures was the device's size.

The concept measures in at 5-inches by 7-inches, the report said, and is much more in line with the iPad mini (5.3 inches by 7.87 inches).

It was also much thicker, nearly two inches more than the size of the current iPhone

t also had many features included on standard PCs, such as USB ports, an Ethernet port and a serial port, the report said.
