It was a momentous day for all Indians as the country joined an elite space club on Wednesday. India's moon mission, Chandrayaan-3, successfully landed on the lunar surface, marking a significant achievement. India has now become the fourth country to successfully land a rover on the moon, following in the footsteps of the USSR/Russia, the United States, and China. However, India has achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the first nation to land near the Moon's South Pole, a highly sought-after destination due to the recent discovery of traces of water in the area.

The touchdown occurred at 6.04 pm amidst resounding cheers at the ISRO center in Bengaluru, creating an atmosphere of jubilation and pride. The news spread like wildfire across social media platforms, with an outpouring of congratulatory messages flooding in.

Former Indian cricket team captain MS Dhoni's daughter, Ziva, enthusiastically joined in the celebration. Dhoni's wife shared a video of Ziva celebrating on Instagram.

The historic moment was captured in a live broadcast that commenced at 5.20 pm, as the lander embarked on its journey towards the Moon's surface. This remarkable feat consisted of four stages, each meticulously executed to ensure a successful landing.

With each stage, Vikram, the lander, inched closer to its lunar destination, gradually initiating the vertical descent in the final stages. The achievement of each milestone was met with jubilation and exultation from the officials at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) mission control room.

Finally, as the lander gracefully touched down on the lunar surface, a wave of euphoria engulfed the room. The joyous occasion was further amplified when Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who happened to be in South Africa at the time, connected via video link to extend his heartfelt congratulations to the entire ISRO team.

Looking ahead, ISRO has an array of ambitious projects on its horizon. Among them is a mission dedicated to studying the Sun, as well as the highly anticipated human space flight programme, Gaganyaan. Additionally, preparations are underway for the launch of Aditya-L1, India's first space-based observatory designed to unravel the mysteries of our nearest star, the Sun.
