Former South African captain Faf du Plessis, considered one of the greatest fielders, has shared his prediction about the highest run-scorer in the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023.

In a clip released on the Star Sports Twitter page, many experts, including Faf, revealed their thoughts about the potential highest run scorer for the ODI World Cup 2023. According to Faf, the Indian player who has the potential to reign on the list of the highest run-scorers is Virat Kohli.

While many of the experts chose Shubman Gill, who currently holds the second spot in the ICC ODI Batting rankings, as being the tournament’s leading run-scorer, Faf, alongside former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan, predicts Kohli to outshine in the batting domain.

Faf and Kohli also play under the same franchise in the Indian Premier League, Royal Challengers Bangalore. 

Kohli is currently holding the 9th spot in the ICC ODI batting rankings and is also eyeing to surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s record of scoring most centuries in the ODIs. The former Indian captain has scored 47 ODI centuries, whereas Sachin smashed 49 ODI Centuries. 

Until now, Kohli has scored 13083 runs in his ODIs with an average of 57.38 and a strike rate of 93.78. 

India will be playing their ICC Cricket World Cup warm-up match tomorrow against the Netherlands at the Greenfield Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

According to a Cricbuzz report, Kohli has flown back to Mumbai due to a personal emergency but is also expected to rejoin the team soon.
