With Punjab & Haryana High Court summoning Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) secretary RP Singla to appear in person on Thursday along with the record pertaining to upcoming elections and revised constitution, the proposed September 8 elections have been postponed indefinitely.

The development came two days after PCA president Rajinder Gupta submitted his resignation after a group of former players, led by former Punjab Ranji Trophy player and Punjab Players’ Association secretary Rakesh Handa and former international player Bhupinder Singh (Sr), were denied entry inside the IS Bindra Stadium complex.

DNA has reliably learnt that Players’ Association representative was carrying documents pertaining to alleged corruption in the purchase of the land for new Mullanpur Stadium being built near Mohali.

HC has directed PCA secretary to produce all the records, including the minutes of the meeting that took place on August 18, 2019, the constitution of the association submitted to COA and the rules governing the procedure of election in question and the order of appointment of the Electoral Officer.

“The election process is a complete violation of the guidelines passed by the Supreme Court,” the applicant has submitted in the HC. It is reliably learnt that PCA president Gupta also resigned after he came to know that “his signatures were wrongly used by PCA while submitting the revised constitution”.

In fact, Gupta submitted before the court that “neither the electoral officer has been appointed with his consent nor the same was part of the agenda discussed during the general house body meeting on August 18”.

The reason given to players was bizarre that “the model code of conduct ahead of the association’s elections do not allow any meeting to be held inside the stadium”.
