Mid-fielder Ashish Chopde led the charge scoring three goals as SRPF scripted a 7-3 win over PCMC in the Fakirbhai Pansare Memorial Hockey Tournament at Dhyanchand Stadium here on Saturday.
It was PCMC’s Sharad Waghmare, who drew the first blood in the second minute of the game through the penalty corner. SRPF recovered from this early jolt and Ashish Chopde gave his team the much needed equaliser in the seventh minute.
He surprised PCMC defenders with his sudden attack from the centre and the ball went past keeper Manoj Kadam.
Prashant Bhat put SRPF in lead after being fed by Rahul Mahekar in the 12th minute. Two minutes later Chopde struck again to increase the lead.
However, PCMC players didn’t surrendered and they increased the pace of the game to pump in two more goals before the break. Ashish Pascal scored in 21st minute while, Ganesh Landge added one goal four five minutes later.
The second half was a pleasant surprise for SRPF supporters as their side went full blast against the rivals. Bhat scored his second goal of the match followed by Chopde in the 38th minute. Suhas Patil and Santosh More added one goal each in two minutes.
PCMC tried hard to equalise the score but the SRPF defenders didn’t let them to get close to the goal-post.
In the second match of the day, Shiloh Sports Club edged out Rovers Academy 3-2. Johnson Kullu opened the account for Shiloh SC through his solo goal in the 25th minute. He doubled up the lead two minutes later.
However, Rover’s Academy received a penalty stroke in the 39th minute as Shiloh SC defender Praful Tirkey intentionally stopped the ball in the penalty area. Santosh Kumar didn’t waste the opportunity and reduced the margin. A 51st minute goal by Shiloh SC’s Jubraj Basci ended all hopes for Rovers to come back in the game.
