Since the Invitational trophy moved to Pune about two decades ago, it has traditionally been held on the final Sunday to mark the end of the season.
This year, just five horses went to the start of the Grade II, mile and a quarter contest which had been sponsored by Oxford Properties this year. Powerthrust went to the lead with Thundering Power in second and the favourite Aspinalls in last.
Turning for home, Powerthrust was given his head as Rajendra eased Thundering Power alongside and Aspinalls searched for galloping room on the rail side.
Inside the final furlong, Earlier in the afternoon, the Cyrus Poonawalla-owned Sovereign Power broke the seven-furlong track record with an extremely impressive victory. His stride to the post looked so fluid and strong that he certainly looks to be a horse who is maturing into a top class sprinter/miler.
