MUMBAI: Dhirubhai Ambani cruised past SVIS 4-0 in the Subroto Cup knock-out phase. Dhirubhai Ambani were in command from the beginning, and thoroughly outplayed their opponents, with the Podar brothers, Gautam and Gaurang, leading the team from the front, combining well to score early in the first half.

The second goal that Dhirubhai scored before the lemon-break would have been credited to Gautam as well, but for the fact that the latter’s drive brushed an SVIS defender on its way into the goal.

Second half brought no luck for SVIS, with the latter just defending away while Dhirubhai bombarded them with attack after attack. Dhirubai increased the tally when Jeet headed the ball in from an excellent throw-in by Karl. Minutes before the final whistle, Dhirubhai’s Pranav Kanwar came close to scoring, but was denied by the goalkeeper.

In another match on the day, MMK College made short work of Thakur School (Kandivli), winning 4-0. Five minutes into the first half, MMK College’s Aditya Deshpande tapped in a pass from Omejo Allukal to open the scoring for MMK. Then, Reynold Murzello, later named as the Outstanding Player of the Match, easily converted a spot kick awarded to MMK.

The third goal came about after a free-kick was awarded to MMK College on account of a handball by a Thakur defender at the edge of the box. Shawn Barreto smashed home another spot-kick and a big victory to MMK.
