ISRO to organise virtual Lunar Science Workshop - Check date, time, how to attend

On the completion of two years of Chandrayaan-2 in Moon’s orbit, ISRO is hosting a two-day virtual Lunar Science Workshop.

Science lovers, here's a chance to get your queries answered by country's leading Space experts. On September 6 and 7, 2021, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will host a two-day online workshop on lunar science. The event will be broadcast live on ISRO's official Facebook page.

The workshop is divided into six sessions, two on the first day and four on the second. Dr Tirtha Pratim Das, Director, Science Programme Office (SPO), Indian Space Research Organisation, HQ, will inaugurate the workshop on the first day at 10 a.m. The virtual Lunar Science Workshop can be attended by anyone via ISRO's website or Facebook page. A Facebook live link has also been provided by ISRO.

 

 

The inauguration ceremony will then take about 45 minutes to complete. The first session of workshop will begin at 12 p.m. and end at 2 p.m., with various aspects of Chandrayaan-2 being discussed, including instruments, a brief overview of scientific findings, mission, payload operations, data archival and dissemination, and the announcement of Chandrayaan-2 Payload Science Results after the lunch break.

Dr Prakash Chauhan, Director, IIRS, will speak on the unambiguous identification of Lunar Volatiles using Chandrayaan-2 IIRS based Reflectance Spectroscopy on the second day after lunch. Dr Dibyendu Nandi of IISER Kolkata will thereafter conduct a talk on Understanding the Lunar Space Environment.

Then, Dr Ramanand Chakrabarti of IISc will give a lecture on the Moon's non-traditional stable isotopic structure, and Dr Nachiketa Rai of IIT Roorkee will talk about the Lunar Interior Geochemistry.

A Public Outreach Panel Discussion involving PIs, Mission Director & ISSDC, and potential Chandrayaan-2 data users will be placed in the workshop's concluding session.
