Dinesh Bajpayee (name changed) wants to go to Canada to study charted accountancy. To fulfil the requirement of 16 years education he appeared for Masters in Commerce (MCom) Part-I from the University of Mumbai.

It has been more than three months since the exam, but he is still awaiting the results.

Around 31,000 students appeared for the MCom exam, which was conducted in April.

“I am confident of getting admission in Canada. But it will only happen when I get my MCom results before the deadline, else an entire year would be wasted,” said Bajpayee.

A Kandivli student, who did not want to be named, is very worried.

“I want to appear for the SET (State Eligibility Test) entrance test for teaching. The last date to register was September 14, so I have filled in the form without my MCom mark sheet. I hope they will consider my case as the results are delayed,” the student said.

MR Jariwala, who runs a commerce class in the western suburbs, said: “There are many students who are confused about whether to register for MCom Part-II or not as they are unsure of their results. Some students are worried that if they fail they will not have much time to prepare for the October examination,”
Vilas Shinde, controller of examination, University of Mumbai, agreed that the MCom results were delayed.

“The 31,000 students have written four papers each, and there are just 50 teachers to correct the papers. How am I supposed to get everything done fast?” he asked. “We have declared MCom banking and finance results on Thursday. We are doing our best to get the results of the other branches.”

He added that as most examinees were from the distance education centre of the varsity, the centre should take responsibility of sending qualified teachers to correct the papers.
When asked if any strict action would be taken against teachers who do not come to correct papers, Shinde replied: “There is a serious dearth of qualified teachers to correct MCom papers.”
