An hour before the lunchtime, few patients start visiting a clinic opposite Tata Memorial Hospital to seek help for ration and other food materials.

The clinic run by an Andheri-based stockbroker Mehul Doshi extends a helping hand for the cancer patients and their families in order to provide them with food, money and other medical treatment.

Doshi has been helping hand to families whose breadwinner is affected due to cancer. He provides a monthly amount of Rs 1,000 to needy patients every month by taking money from donors and transferring it to the patients' bank account. Doshi who sits in 'Anand' (happiness) clinic tries to make the cancer patient happy.

"Since less than a year ago, we started an initiative to pay around Rs 1,000 to the family where the earning members are affected with cancer and are unable to support the family financially. Many donors come forward to help families and patients. Around 20 to 25 families across the country are supported by initiative so far. Few of the donors directly transfer the money every month, while few donors are irregular but we manage to help each family every month," said Doshi.

Getting donation from various donors, besides financially helping them, Doshi helps the patients for a monthly ration for them to cook. Since last year, this year, he has also started helping in financing the cancer patients' children education.

Doshi, said, "The social work started a few years ago when I first donated my platelets for a small girl who was affected with cancer. Her mother struggled to get her treated in the hospital and stood by the girl when her family did not support her medical treatment. After looking at her struggle in life, I thought of coming forward and helping more cancer patients in various ways. Besides doing platelets donation for the cancer patients, I started helping them with raw food materials which they can use to cook food during their stay in Mumbai. Twice every week, the kit of raw food material is donated to various patients and their family. Out of 121 patients, each patient gets a sufficient amount of food material kit including raw grains, rice, oil, to name a few which they can use for a one month."
