While Lok Sabha elections at Bhiwandi constituency is only three days away, incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Kapil Patil is still an unknown face for most of the voters of Kalyan west which falls under this constituency. They are not only unaware of his whereabouts but also the work done by him in the last five years.

When Patil went up on the dais during Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis' campaign at Kalyan on April 22 and announced that he had received Rs 27,000 crore funds for various development projects in his constituency in the last five years, the crowd was taken aback.

"I have never seen Kapil Patil before this rally. What Rs 27,000 crores is he talking about," asked Ajit Mhatre, a Kalyan resident who was present at the CM's campaign.

Like Mhatre, Patil was an unknown face for many at the campaign. "I do not know that he is one of the candidates from our constituency. I have never seen him before," said Jay Nair, a software professional from Kalyan's Adharwadi chowk. Amused by Patil's claims on infrastructural development in Kalyan that took place during his tenure, he added, "Roads in and around Kalyan are in a sorry state. The issue of dumping ground is yet to be taken care of. There's hardly any improvement in the constituency."

"The infrastructural development he is bragging about, is only on papers," said Vandana Sonawane, another resident of Kalyan.

Kapil Patil was unavailable for comments.
