10 rules to a simple yet elegant home decor

1. Less is more! This is one of the common rules that most architects follow. Keep your décor as simple and clutter free.
2. Each area must have one focal point. For instance, your living room must have one talking point. A large showpiece or a fancy clock are some of the examples.
3. Lighting plays an important role. Apart from the fancy lighting arrangements, a house needs more natural light.
4. The colour scheme also plays a major role. Having vibrant colours like red or mustard yellow on one side of your wall in your living room or bedroom has become quite a trend today.
5. Instead of having simple drapes, try the printed ones for your bedroom. It enhances the overall effect of the décor.
6. Even if you are not much of an art collector, a small piece of art in your room will make it look nicer. A simple painting or caricature is enough to do the trick.
7. If you have a large living area, bring in plants to create a natural atmosphere. You could have them in your balcony or living room.
8. Always buy furnishings in neutral colours. Loud colours are quite a turn off for visitors.
9. Decorate your home with artifacts. You could pick from a range of modern and traditional artifacts according to the theme of the house. Apart from the design factor, these are the things that add up to your home.
10. Lastly, keep in mind to have a dirt free home. No matter how much you invest in buying furniture or other home décor products, keeping them clean and tidy are the most important of all.
