Assam governor JB Patnaik was injured today when he slipped in the bathroom at the Circuit House in Dibrugarh.

Patnaik hurt his left leg and has been admitted to the Assam Medical College Hospital in Dibrugarh, Raj Bhavan officials in Guwahati said.

The 84-year-old governor had gone to the washroom prior to his flight to Guwahati when he slipped and fell down, the sources said.

Hospital authorities said mild fractures were feared on his left knee but they would be able to confirm that only after medical tests.

To take care of the governor a medical team was formed with all the heads of departments of the hospital like surgery, medicine, orthopaedics, pathology, radiology and cardiology.

Admitted to a private cabin in the hospital, Patnaik would be under a 24-hour observation to note if he would require a surgery, the authorities said.

The governor had halted for the night in Dibrugarh after attending a function in the neighbouring Tinsukia district yesterday and was scheduled to fly back to Guwahati today.
