Prime Minister Narendra Modi to celebrate his 73rd birthday today, September 17. He was born in Vadnagar, Gujarat, on September 17, 1950. He rose from humble beginnings to become a powerful leader on the global stage. 

From his early years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been a part of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Although he has been active in politics since the 1970s, his political career didn't gain significant momentum until the late 1990s.

PM Modi began his position as Gujarat's BJP's general secretary in 1987. In 1995, the party secured the majority in Gujarat, and he rose quickly up the ranks.

When he was appointed Gujarat's Chief Minister on October 7, 2001, Narendra Modi took on his first constitutionally recognised position. He has been the head of an elected administration ever since that time. He implemented a number of popular social welfare schemes, including SWAGAT online programme, Vibrant Gujarat Summit, Praveshotsav, Gunotsav and the celebration of various national festivals.

In addition to being the longest-serving non-Congress Prime Minister, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also served as the head of an elected government for the most time—more than 12 years, including his time as Gujarat's Chief Minister.

The Modi-led BJP decimated all opposition in 2014 and swept the election, becoming the first party to secure a majority in more than three decades.

PM Modi spent 13 years, starting in 2001, as the Chief Minister of his native Gujarat before moving to New Delhi.

Modi won the general elections in 2019 with an even larger margin of victory. India has benefited greatly from PM Modi's leadership as the nation rose to the fifth-largest economy in the world. By 2030, The Prime Minister has now vowed to make India the third-largest economy in the world.

The end of Narendra Modi's second term as prime minister is approaching next year, but he still dominates much of Indian politics and political conversation. Narendra Modi continues to be the most popular politician in India and the entire world, despite criticism from the opposition over a host of issues.
