The Home Ministry on Tuesday informed that no proposal has been sent to the ministry from state or agencies to propose a ban on right wing organisation Sanatan Sanstha or Hindu Janajagruti Samiti.

Regarding the ban on right-wing organisations like Sanatan Sanstha or Hindu Janajagruti Samiti and other smaller outfits, the government in a written reply said, "No proposal from state or agencies has been received ... and hence the question doesn't arise." The central government said banning such organisations pertains to the Government of Maharashtra.

In a reply to the question raised by Asaduddin Owaisi, the government said "Public Order" and "Police" are the state subject as per the Seventh Schedule.

Minister of State (MoS) for Home G Kishan Reddy responded after AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi raised the issue.

Responding to Owaisi, Reddy said, "No proposal to ban outfits has been received by the Centre."

Owaisi had raised the issue asking the government on banning these organisations to safeguard citizens, and in the interest of unity and integrity of the country.

This is in sharp contrast to a statement of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis who had informed the Maharashtra assembly in December last year that there was indeed "a proposal to ban Sanatan Sanstha sent by the earlier state government and it is pending before the central government".

However, in slight contrast to the Centre's reply that no it hasn't received any proposal on banning Sanatan Sanstha, in 2018, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the proposal to ban the supposed Hindu right-wing group Sanatan Sanstha was pending before the central government.

"The proposal to ban Sanatan Sanstha was sent by the earlier state government and it is pending before the central government? Fadnavis had said in the Maharashtra Assembly while replying to a resolution moved by the Opposition on the final day of the winter session.

This had come days after Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the murder case of journalist Gauri Lankesh found out an organised crime syndicate formed in the year 2010-11 which used to target persons which went against their beliefs and ideology.

The SIT also revealed that the 18 accused in the case are active members of an Organised Crime Syndicate.

According to the SIT report, the members of this Syndicate strictly followed the guidelines and principles mentioned in "Kshatra Dharma Sadhana", a book published by Sanatan Sanstha.
