Many roads to remain blocked for roadshow

Main traffic arteries of Ahmedabad will remain blocked on Wednesday when Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a 7-km roadshow from the airport to Mahatma Gandhi's Sabarmati Ashram with Israeli Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu in an open-top Gyspy. During the show, the stretch t the route will be blocked for the public till the VVIP moments are over.

During five hours, the entire traffic movement will be diverted to alternate routes by the traffic department, forcing the commuters to take a long route to reach airport. The traffic department is going install barricades on the roads from 7.30am to 12 pm, during the time all the traffic coming towards the Airport, Dafnala or Riverfront East road will be diverted to alternate routes.

Commuters, who have to reach Ahmedabad Airport during the time, will have to take alternates from SG highway- Gandhinagar - Airport or They will have to take the Narol- Naroda road - SP ring road- Airport.

The diversion will create traffic issues at other connecting roads and for which traffic cops have been deployed at other major junctions of the city to maintain it. Sudhir Desai, In-charge JCP of traffic, said, "We have made all arrangement to maintain the traffic movement of the city clear. Apart from that, we have also deployed cops at each roadblock to guild public. If then also people are facing any issue, they can call on 1095 helpline number for any traffic-related issue and it was sorted out."

Flight ops to remain smooth

Keeping in mind Isreal Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit on Wednesday to Ahme-dabad, the city airport is all decked up. While the airport officials remained tight-lipped of the special arrangements being made to welcome the Prime Ministers, sources at the airport told DNA that the regular flight operations will not be affected. Airport director Manoj Gangal said, “I cannot share any information due to security concerns.”

“Whenever any Prime Minister is set to arrive or depart, the air zone is declared as no flight zone for few minutes. It means that no flights are supposed to fly in a particular distance from the VIP aircraft. However, the domestic flights scheduled on Wednesday will only have a difference of 5 minutes from the VIP movement so no major effect will be seen,” a source said.
