The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a warning on Sunday stating that Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya are likely to experience heavy to extremely heavy rainfall through Monday. This has been attributed to the interaction between a cyclonic circulation over west Assam at lower tropospheric levels and the western end of the monsoon trough aligning along the Himalayan foothills.

Over the next five days, light to moderate widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning are expected in East and Northeast India, which has had lower-than-average rainfall so far this monsoon season. So far in the June-September season, rainfall in the region has been 17% below average.

Assam and Meghalaya will likely get isolated rain today and Monday, including really heavy rainfall tonight, while Arunachal Pradesh is likely to have isolated, very heavy rainfall overnight.

Additionally, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are expected to have light to moderate rain and thunderstorms tonight, along with the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Tuesday and Wednesday. The IMD has issued a warning, however, that rainfall over the next five days could not be enough to significantly improve the inadequate monsoon conditions in eastern and northeastern regions.

Despite the IMD's warning, it's probable that the rainfall that falls over the next five days won't be sufficient to significantly strengthen the weak monsoon weather in the eastern and northeastern regions. Southern India is anticipated to have light to moderate scattered precipitation tonight, especially in northern Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.

The rest of the country will have moderate rainfall during the next five days. The IMD has also predicted hot and humid weather for the next three days for Kerala and the neighboring state of Tamil Nadu.
