Congress observes 'Vishwasghat Diwas' on Modi govt's 4th anniversary, protests held

The Congress party observed 'Vishwasghat Diwas (betrayal day)' on Saturday as Narendra Modi-led BJP government completed its four years in power at the Centre.

Protests were held across the country including capital Delhi. The Congress will hold press conferences in 20 cities where the media will be addressed by senior party leaders such as Gulam Nabi Azad, Ashok Gehlot and Rajdeep Surjewala.

State unit presidents and AICC incharges have been directed by the party leadership to hold protests and press conferences to mark the anniversary. State units have also been asked to stage protests at the district level.

Senior advocates Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Manu Singhvi will also hold press conferences in Bhuwneshwar and Mumbai respectively.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed good governance as an all-round development for the country on the occasion.

In a series of tweets, the Prime Minister underscored that development has become a mass movement for citizens of the country in the last four years.

Modi government came to power with a brute majority in 2014. Prior to the 2014 general elections, Prime Minister Modi in his campaign speeches had made a slew of promises for spurring India's development and appealed to voters to end the 10-year rule of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA).

The Congress and other opposition parties allege that the government failed to fulfil its promises.
