BSF foils infiltration bid in Kupwara, elite commandos airdropped in Ganderbal to neutralise terrorists

An infiltration attempt was foiled by the security forces in Nowgam sector of Kupwara in north Kashmir on Sunday, triggering a brief gunfight between the infiltrators and BSF men deployed in the area, sources said. 

They said that a group tried to cross the Line of Control (LoC) but the alert Border Security Force (BSF) personnel opened fire, forcing them to retreat. After bring spotted, the forces launched an operation in the area to see if anyone sneaked but sources said the bid was successfully foiled. 

After the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution, the terror launch pads have been activated with terrorists trying to cross the LoC from different routes which remained silent all these years. According to police, hundreds of terrorists are waiting at the launch pads to cross over but the counter infiltration grid is maintaining tight vigil along the LoC. 

Meanwhile, in central Kashmir's Gandarbal district, the Indian army airdropped elite commandos in the forests of Gangbal as the trek is 4 to 5 hours from the last accessible road. The Indian Army, according to sources, has also established a temporary base camp in the mountains to circle the hiding terrorists as they may try to slip away given the location of the area. 

Two terrorists have been killed since last 10 days when the first contact fire was established between the Indian army and terrorists. Sources in the police believe that all the terrorists in the area have infiltrated recently through the Gurez sector of Bandipora in north Kashmir. The killed terrorists according to sources have been buried with the help of local villagers. 

This is also one of the biggest anti-terror operations launched in the Kashmir valley after the special status of Jammu and Kashmir was ended on August 5.
