It’s not only a bomb blast that has left the cops clueless. The Mumbai police crime branch, who recovered actor Hema Malini’s jewellery from robbers, has not returned it to her since it was recovered in March this year. The actress claims that she has been informed that a major part of the booty recovered from the armed robbers have also gone missing.

The armed robbery took place at Malini’s bungalow in Goregaon when four people (all former Nepali watchmen of the area) broke into her house. One of the robbers, who was arrested later, spilled the beans. Unit 12 of the Crime Branch under the supervision of the then joint commissioner of police, Rakesh Maria, reportedly recovered the booty of Rs 10 lakh worth of jewellery and a cash stash of Rs 40,000. The total worth of valuables stolen from the house was pegged at Rs 80 lakh according to police estimates.

“They told me that my jewellery was returned but they never gave it back to me. I have already enquired about it numerous times, but I never got my valuables back. It’s been more than a year now but they don’t show any interest in returning my jewellery,” says Malini, adding that she is ‘hurt’ by the way she has been treated.

The actress also claims that she has now learnt that her most precious jewellery pieces are not with the police. “They initially said that they recovered all my jewellery, but now they are saying that only some of my jewellery is with them. I was also told that my most expensive pieces (her diamond jewellery and expensive neckpieces) are not there with the police. So who are they with?” asks an agitated Malini.

The former Rajya Sabha MP is now planning to take the case to the higher authorities. “Jewellery has more of a sentimental value for a woman than the monetary value. I would like to have them back,” Malini says.

When contacted, the police sources confirmed that Malini’s jewellery has not been returned to her, even though they have some of it in their possession. But they said they are ‘planning’ to return it soon.
