R Madhavan does very little films but whenever he does a film, it does have a lot of meat and flesh for the audience's viewing. Even with a Tanu Weds Manu, the film is incomplete without Maddy's character. But when he decided to turn a producer, he made sure his priorities didn't shift.

R Madhavan's debut production venture Saala Khadoos has a relatively fresh cast but that doesn't bother him. "We have tried to make a great film. It is an intelligent film which is very entertaining. I am sure people will like what we have tried to make for them." Despite being a producer, box office isn't what he is too concerned about. "See, as a producer, I would want my film to do well at the box office. But that's not the pre-requisite to make a film. For me, content oriented films are what I am looking forward to. I can't make anything just to make money."

And Saala Khadoos too didn't come too easy. Madhavan explains, "This film has been in the pipeline for two and half years. Nothing was going right for the film. First, we wanted a real life boxer for the film, which is why producers were backing out. They wanted a known face and I wanted the film to look as realistic as possible. It was my decision which I didn't want to compromise on. Eventually, I met so many producers who said no and the final nail in the coffin came when the last one I had on mind decided to opt out. I thought it's over. We cannot do this. Then, that very night, despite being upset, I went and met Rajkumar Hirani and narrated him the entire script and gave him the entire idea that was in my head. He instantly liked the idea and decided to come on board."
