The Delhi Police arrested a gang of fraudsters on Wednesday, including a woman who used to dupe senior citizens by pretending to be officials from an insurance company. The accused would then con their customers by luring them with fake insurance policies.

According to the police, the accused usually targeted senior citizens, women, or people whose policies needed to be revised. The accused used to call their customers, and promise them huge returns of money if they submitted the amount required for the policy.

The police were approached by a 92-year-old man, who was also tricked by the false commitments of the accused. Pooja, one of the accused, called up the victim and convinced him to deposit Rs 80,000 which would give him a profit of Rs 14 lakhs within a few months. Soon, another call was made by the fraudsters, asking the old man to submit Rs 2 lakh for more benefit on his policy, which led to suspicion in the mind of the victim and he reported the matter at the Amar Colony Police station.

A team carried out the investigation and managed to find out the details of the company and traced the location of the accused persons. During the investigation, it came to fore that the mastermind of the whole plan was 42-year-old Vishal Agarwal, a resident of Hapur, UP .His accomplice was identified as Pooja Aiyar (25), a resident of Bijnor in UP. Pooja was earlier working at a call centre.
