Virat Kohli's Royal Challengers Bangalore have won the toss and chosen to bowl first in the first game of the 2021 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) against the Mumbai Indians. Glenn Maxwell, Kyle Jamieson, Rajat Patidar have been handed their debuts for the RCB. While Chris Lynn and Marco Jansen were making their debut for Mumbai Indians.

Kohli said that with the batting depth, they would prefer to chase. Like Kohli, Rohit also wanted to bowl first but was happy batting first given the strength of their side. Mumbai made three changes from their last game, i.e., the final of the last year's IPL.
