Shubman Gill who was dismissed for a first-ball duck in the first innings made up for it with an unbeaten 204 against West Indies A in the third and final unofficial Test on Thursday.

The double century recovered India from a disastrous top-order collapse. The young batsman has also broken former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir's record in the process.

Gill - 19 years 334 days - became the youngest Indian to score a double century in first-class cricket. Gambhir was 20 years and 124 days when he scored a double ton for India's Board President XI's team against Zimbabweans in 2002.

Disappointed on not being picked but won't spend time thinking over it, says Shubman Gill on Windies tour snub

Gill's 204 of 250 balls was laced with 19 fours and two sixes.

Gill steadied India with an unbeaten 315-run partnership for the fifth wicket skipper Hanuma Vihari.

Vihari came to the crease after Nadeem's dismissal and scored 118 runs from 219 deliveries, including 10 fours and one six.

At stumps on Day 3, West Indies A were 37 for no loss, needing 336 more runs to win the match.
