Consumer healthcare giant Johnson & Johnson has run into fresh trouble, with drug controllers in Rajasthan finding a cancer-causing substance in its 'No More Tears' baby shampoo, reports said on Sunday. Two batches of the baby product were found to contain formaldehyde, a known carcinogen, prompting a notice by the drug inspectors to the company, said the report.
A J&J spokesperson disputed the findings. "We do not accept the interim results given to us… The government did not disclose the test methods, details or any quantitative findings." J&J insisted its products are safe.
The development could refuel health concerns that the firm claimed to have settled five years ago.
