Gujarat: Woman PSI held for taking an AC as bribe

A complaint was lodged by a man with the ACB, stating that he himself was accused of abetting suicide and charged under Section 306 of the IPC.

A lady police sub-inspector (PSI) was arrested on Saturday for allegedly accepting an AC as bribe in exchange of not taking in custody a person in one case. A trap was laid by sleuths of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) at Vanda police line in Amreli.

A complaint was lodged by a man with the ACB, stating that he himself was accused of abetting suicide and charged under Section 306 of the IPC.

The lady officer, identified as Chetna Kansagra of Vanda police station, also took Rs 75,000 from the accused. Following this, Kansagra also sought an Rs 27,000 Mitashi AC from the man. He allegedly asked him to deliver the machine to her house. A trap was laid by the sleuths who told the complainant to buy the AC and deliver it.

The ACB officials put a watch in the area and arrested Chetna while she was accepting the machine. DP Chudhasma, an assistant director of ACB said, "Earlier, we arrested the accused of accepting valuables, the latest case is happening for the first time. Usually, people who are scared of taking bribes in the form of money, ask for valuables. In this case, the lady accpepted both."
