There were several reports since Thursday evening of a tussle between UP Police and Mumbai Police over the Mirzapur controversy. A team of UP Police had reportedly claimed that they were denied necessary permission by the Mumbai Police to proceed with their investigation.

However, according to our sources, on Friday, a team of 3 members of UP's Mirzapur Police came to the BKC one in Mumbai at 11:30 am at the Amazon office.

The Mumbai Police asked them to bring necessary permission to conduct their investigation after which Mirzapur Police returned from the Amazon office. However, no debate, tussle, or breaking of mobile phones took place during this period as it was being reported.

For the uninformed, an FIR was lodged in Uttar Pradesh against the makers of Mirzapur in Kotwali Dehat police station by Arvind Chaturvedi, a local journalist who has also written a book on the life of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In his police complaint, Chaturvedi said that the plot and dialogues of the web series have hurt his "religious, social and regional sentiments" and that it has provided a wrong portayal of Mirzapur city.

The FIR named executive producers of the series Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar, and Bhaumik Gondaliya and Amazon Prime Video platform, where the series has been running.

In September 2020, a day after 'Mirzapur 2' was released, Member of Parliament from Mirzapur constituency Anupriya Patel had also demanded action against the web series alleging that the show is maligning the image of the Uttar Pradesh city by portraying it as a 'violent' region.

Taking to her verified Instagram handle, Patel said that through the web series 'Mirzapur', on one hand, while the makers are portraying it as a violent city, on the other the show is also spreading ethnic disharmony.

The FIR on Mirzapur follows the case lodged against Tandav on charges of hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus.
