Black magic is behind the murder of a three-year-old girl allegedly thrown from 7th floor of a highrise society in Colaba, suspects the Colaba police. The killing was possibly meant to be a sacrifice to god to attain special powers. In defense, the accused claimed that he didn't throw the girl but she fell as there was no window grill in the room. The accused was produced in a holiday court and remanded in police custody till September 13.
The accused was identified as Anil Chukani, a resident of Ashok Society in Colaba and the three-year-old girl as Sanaya Hathiramani residing in the neighbouring flat. Police said the accused was practicing black magic at home and had locked the room and allegedly thrown a girl from the window. Six months back, he had arrived in the city after working as a salesman in Morocco but was currently unemployed. He was also mentally ill and was under treatment for the same. Chukani and the girl's father are school friends.
According to police officials, at 7.30 pm on Saturday, the accused Chukani took Sanaya and her twin sister to his home for playing games. Sanaya's grandmother also came along with them at his room. Meanwhile, Chukani took Sanaya in another room and locked the door from inside. The grandmother asked him to open the door but he didn't listen. Later, she took the other kid out of the room and asked for help from neighbours.
At the same time, a loud voice was heard and Sanaya was found fallen on the bonnet of a car from the seventh floor of the society. The father rushed her to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead before admission.
The police are currently gathering evidence from Chukani's house and are scanning the CCTV footage of the area. They also say the accused is not cooperating in custody.
