Relief is likely to be in store for motorists using the Santacruz Chembur Link Road (SCLR), as one of the bottlenecks in the form of a water tank-cum-pump house will be removed from the road at Kurla. It took over a decade to build the 4.5-km SCLR by razing several structures but the pump house has been creating hindrance in the smooth flow of traffic coming from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT), Chembur towards Kalina. People are forced to change lanes due to the bottleneck on this arterial and busy road, often resulting in accidents.

Now one-and-a-half years since the road was opened to the public, 100sqft of space has been found inside Netaji Nagar in Kurla (W), where this pump house will be relocated. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will be responsible for the relocation.

The authority managed to get the small plot with the help of Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA). New machinery will be installed there to supply water to the adjoining areas. "The land parcel was made available by MHADA in March this year. Now we have floated bids to appoint a contractor to shift the pump house inside Netaji Nagar. We expect the shifting to be through within the next few months," said an MMRDA official.
