Round 3 of Jodhpur Rally of the FMSCI Indian National Rally Championship (INRC) came to an abrupt end after three people were killed in an accident on Saturday.

The motorbike, carrying two pillion riders, came under the wheels of ace rallyist and six-time INRC winner Gaurav Gill — 150m from the finishing line. The three deceased were not wearing helmets and were on the track even after being warned to stay away.

"The motorcycle forcibly entered the barricaded area, and broke past the security barrier. The driver was moving at high speed and could not even see the motorbike as it emerged at a sharp turn," Arvind Balan, local organiser of the rally, said.

"It was an unfortunate incident that took place despite all safety measures being in place," said J Prithiviraj, president of FMSCI (Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India) and chairman of the event's organising committee.

Gill, who is the first-ever recipient of the Arjuna Award for motorsports, was also injured and has been hospitalised. "He is facing respiratory issues," said an official, "He is in a hospital 50 kms away and was unaware of people losing their lives. He was expressed his condolences."
