Monday, which observed auspicious Dev Uthani Ekadashi, also witnessed Congress biggies filing nomination papers across the state. PCC chief Sachin Pilot from Tonk, AICC general secretary Ashok Gehlot from Sardarpura, Leader of Opposition Rameshwar Dudi from Nokha and Manvendra Singh, son of former Cabinet minister Jaswant Singh, from Jhalrapatan and Congress general secretary CP Joshi from Nathdwara filed the nomination paper with hundreds of supporters.

After worshipping at city’s Moti Dungri Temple and a mega roadshow, Pilot filed his nomination papers for the Assembly elections. He is contesting from Tonk where the BJP, changing its strategy at the last moment, has fielded PWD minister Yunus Khan. The Congress, breaking a 46-year-old tradition of fielding a Muslim candidate from Tonk, has given the ticket Pilot, who is contesting his first assembly election.

Pilot, talking to scribes said that the election is a fight between the ideologies of his party and the BJP and the Congress would not only win the election in Tonk, but also the entire state with a sizeable margin. Pilot was happy with overwhelming welcome received from the people at the time of nomination papers. “Tonk is out on streets to show that it stands and endorses the change that is coming to Rajasthan with Congress Party’s vision! The colours of progress have painted Tonk with energy and enthusiasm,” tweeted Pilot.

Ex-Rajasthan chief minister Gehlot has also filed nomination papers from Sardarpura in Jodhpur, the seat he has been winning three times since 1999. At the time of filing nomination papers, hundreds of supporters were present. On the occasion, Gehlot addressed to the party workers and urged them to make him win him with a team spirit. 

“I want to appeal that I am just a medium and you all are Ashok Gehlot. You all work for the party being Ashok Gehlot,” said Gehlot. He also took a pot shot on the chief minister Vasundhara Raje for discriminating Jodhpur in the terms of development works as he represented the area. Manvendra Singh also filed nomination papers from Jhalrapatan where he is taking on Raje on her home turf.

Notably, the filing of nomination papers begun from November 12 ended on Monday which falls on Dev Uthani Ekadashi. This is an auspicious and favorable day as indicated by Hindu customs. As per the Hindu schedule, Dev Uthani Ekadashi happens on the Ekadashi Tithi of Shukla Paksha splendid fortnight in the Hindu month of Kartik.
