Three terrorists killed in Tral encounter

A local youth was also killed when security forces fired pellets to quell the stone-pelting mob in the area soon after the encounter was over

Radical commander Zakir Musa-led Al Qaeda linked 'Ansar Ghazwat-Ul-Hind' suffered a major setback on Wednesday when security forces killed three of its top local slain terrorists in a swift operation in slain terroristBurhan Wani's hometown of Tral in South Kashmir's Pulwama district.

A local youth was also killed when security forces fired pellets to quell the stone-pelting mob in the area soon after the encounter was over.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the police along with 42 Rashtriya Riffles, 180th battalion of CRPF launched a joint cordon and search operation in Gulab Bagh area of Tral. When the forces were busy conducting the search operation, the hiding terrorists fired upon the search party. "The security forces retaliated, leading to an encounter in which three terrorists of Zakir Musa's group identified as Zahid Ahmad Bhat, Mohammad Ishaq Bhat, and Mohammad Ashraf Dar were eliminated. Two AK 47 rifles and one pistol were seized from the encounter site", a police spokesman said.

Police said Mohd Ishaq Bhat was involved in grievously injuring the police Head Constable Abu Gani Bhat. He was also involved in thrashing and torturing of some SPOs on gunpoint and circulating its video on social media.

"Zahid Rashid Bhat was involved in hurling grenade on CRPF Nafri which resulted in injuries to one CRPF personnel. Both Ishaq and Zahid were also involved in firing incident at Tral-i-Payeen Bazaar resulting in injuries to three persons. They were also involved in various grenade attacks in South Kashmir", said the police spokesman.

"Zahid Rashid Bhat hurled grenades on CRPF Nafri, which resulted in injuries to one CRPF personnel. Both Ishaq and Zahid were also involved in the firing incident at Tral-i-Payeen Bazaar resulting in injuries to three persons. They were also involved in various grenade attacks in South Kashmir," said the spokesman.

"Post the encounter, a huge mob pelted stones upon a camp. During this, one person sustained pellet injuries and later succumbed to his injuries," said the police spokesman.

Shortly after the encounter, the pro-Pakistan Hizb-ul-Mujahideen said the slain terrorists were re-joining the outfit after leaving Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind.

"Ansar-Gazwat-ul-Hind is headed by Zakir Musa and has been created to divide Kashmir," said a Burhanuddin, Hizbul operational spokesman.
