Meet IFS Eenam Gambhir, brain behind New Delhi G20 Leaders' Declaration

The diplomatic team, which included joint secretary Eenam Gambhir and Nagaraj Naidu Kakanur, organized 300 bilateral meetings and distributed 15 drafts to their counterparts on the controversial Ukraine issue in order to forge an agreement on Declaration.

    The G20 Summit of 2023 has garnered a lot of focus because of the historic actions that took place on the summit's first day with complete agreement. On September 9, 2023, the New Delhi G20 Leaders' Declaration was adopted, all 83 paragraphs of the declaration were approved by unanimous vote following roughly 200 hours of discussion.

    Many officials worked on the Declaration, which has received recognition from various countries. The Joint Secretary of the G20, Eenam Gambhir, was one of the most significant contributors. Amitabh Kant, the G20 Sherpa for India, stated that it took more than "200 hours of non-stop discussions" on the part of an Indian diplomatic team to reach an agreement on the G20 declaration, which was accepted at the 18th Leaders' Summit in New Delhi.

    The diplomatic team, which included joint secretary Eenam Gambhir and Nagaraj Naidu Kakanur, organized 300 bilateral meetings and distributed 15 drafts to their counterparts on the controversial Ukraine issue in order to forge an agreement that was reached on Saturday.

    Who is Eenam Gambhir?

    Indian Foreign Service (IFS) Officer Eenam Gambhir is a member of the 2005 Batch. She serves as the Joint Secretary G20 in the G20 Secretariat and the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi. Eenam Gambhir has earned two master's degrees, one in mathematics from Hindu College of the University of Delhi.

    And another in advanced international security from the University of Geneva. Eenam Gambhir has a good command of English, Hindi and Spanish. Eenam Gambhir has been tasked with managing G20-related matters.

    Prior to this, Eenam Gambhir served as a Senior Advisor on Peace and Security Matters in the Office of the President of the United Nations General Assembly's (UNGA) 74th Session at UN Headquarters in New York. Eenam Gambhir also worked in the Indian embassies in Argentina and Mexico, both in the region of Latin America.

    While working in New Delhi from 2011 to 2016, Gambhir oversaw matters associated with India's neighboring nations, particularly Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran. Until June 2019, she managed political, peace, and security affairs for India's Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.

    Throughout her probationary period in New Delhi in 2007, Eenam Gambhir also contributed to UN social and economic challenges.
