The Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has given a big relief to its pensioners. The EPFO has extended the deadline for submitting Jeevan Pramaan Patra till 28 February 2021. The move is likely to benefit about 35 lakh pensioners.

The decision has been taken keeping in mind the increasing outbreak of coronavirus in the country.

"In view of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the vulnerability of elderly population to Corona Virus, EPFO has extended the time limit up to 28th February 2021 for submission of Life Certificate (Jeevan Pramaan Patra-JPP) in respect of the Pensioners drawing pension under EPS 1995 and whose Life certificate is due in any month till February 28, 2021," the Ministry of Labour & Employment said in an official release.

All pensioners of the Employees' Pension Scheme 1995 (EPS'95) have to submit a life certificate (Jeevan Pramaan Patra) every year for receiving the monthly pension.

All the pension seekers were supposed to submit digital life certificate at the EPFO office by November. However, the new update by the organisation now allows pensioners to submit the proof by next year. Currently, a pensioner can submit Jeevan Pramaan Patra (JPP) anytime till 30 November, which is valid for a period of one year from the date of issue.

There are 3.65 lakh common service centres (CSCs) where JPP can be submitted. The pensioners can also submit a certificate in the nearest branch of the bank in which they receive their pension. Apart from these, postal network of 1.90 lakh Postmen and Grameen Dak Sevaks under the Department of Post also helps in submitting the certificate. There are also 135 regional offices and 117 district offices of EPFO where one can submit the proof.

Pensioners can also submit the life certificate through the UMANG app on their phone.
