The BJP today described as "communal and absurd" the government's decision to hand over all right-wing terror cases to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), alleging that it was done for vote-bank politics ahead of the assembly polls in five states.

"If it is the government thinking then this is the most absurd and most communal decision ever taken by this government because you cannot colour terror. Terror is terror and should be dealt with like terror," BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said.

The Union home ministry has decided to transfer all right-wing Hindu terror cases to the NIA, sources said.

This would mean that both Samjhauta and Malegaon blast cases will be investigated by the NIA. The BJP government in Madhya Pradesh has been opposed to this.

"If the government had decided to transfer all terror related cases to the NIA as CBI's workload is too much then there was a logic. But they are transferring only Hindu terror cases... what is this Hindu terror all about? Do you say Muslim terror or Christian terror?" Javadekar said.

He further alleged that the government was communalising terror for votebank politics of Congress as Assembly elections will be held next month in Kerala, Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

"Terror is terror. Why to communalise it?... This is being done to send a message. But let me tell you that even Muslims do not like such type of actions of the government. This is the corrupt communal politics of the Congress which is on exhibit," Javadekar said.

He insisted that the UPA government was communalising everything from budget allocations to bank loans.

"They are showing the Congress culture which is now showing its true colours," Javadekar said.

The BJP leader said home minister P Chidambaram had earlier used the term 'saffron terror' but had to withdraw it after pressure from the public and the opposition.
