Parineeti Chopra has been one of the actresses in the film industry to have spoken her mind. In an  recently held event, we saw her doing the same, this time on a social-centric issue. At the launch of an FMCG product she endorses, the fiery actress Parineeti Chopra opened up about eradicating the taboo related to menstruation and periods in the country. She spoke at length about how irrational taboos do exist in our society and it must be eliminated.

At the event, Chopra spoke on how she comes from a very small town where there are a lot of such taboos and the important thing remains to eradicate them all.  She also added on how some of these taboos have a past associated with it, some kind of history out of which only some make sense.  This also includes being advised from against touching pickles during one's menstruation time, something that Parineeti's grandmother used to guide her not to do.

Other taboos mentioned by her include not visiting the temple, kitchen, or washing one's hair among other such practises during periods. "I would constantly feel that I have not done anything wrong, don't stop me from doing this. We now live in an educated country, in an almost developed one. We have come so far ahead. But in these things we are really lagging behind. Such things cannot happen today, it's 2016, it's crazy that we talk like this," she said.

A few months ago,  there was a video which showed Parineeti lambasting a male journalist. In the video which had gone viral, she is seen lashing out at him for his ignorance regarding periods. She further maintained that talking about it and educating one self is what India needs.  "We all want to talk about how we feel in all other departments but we refuse to talk about periods, or come out of our shell and remove these taboos - it's high time we do so," she also added.

There have also been quite a few social media campaigns on menstruation which have been doing the rounds recently. But in her own small way, Pari is trying to make a huge difference to the opinions and perceptions that exist within the society.
