Most youngsters today have pre-conceived notion that arranged marriages are a thing of the past and it is real love that they should be looking for. But NRI director Nayan Padrai explores the concept of arranged marriages in India in this modern age with his debut Indo-American film When Harry Tries To Marry. The script of the film has already received international acclaim at eight different competitions in the US.

Nayan believes that although the events in the film revolve around an Indian family, the story has the potential to connect with a universal audience. “Arranged arriage is not an Indian concept
exclusively and love is something which is not a disposable commodity. Since people are always looking for a relationship which is grounded and stable, I have tried to give an inside-out view about love and arranged marriage,” he says.

The film is a romantic comedy which also deals with larger issues concerning our society such as the loneliness of growing up in a broken family. “While arranged marriages have featured in cinema before, my film focuses on a man’s point of view about this topic,” says Nayan. The film has been largely shot in New York and Kutch.

The film is expected to release in India by year end. The film revolves around Harish, 22, handsome and rich. He shocks his family and friends when he decides to opt for an arranged marriage to a young woman from India.
