Shaadi No. 1

Melody be damned, this one's sheer cacophony. Anu Malik and lyricist Sameer deliver a dud and that's being polite. Right from cashing in on the popularity of Indian Idol contestants, Rahul Vaidya and Prajakta Shukre to using sadak chap lyrics like Jitne channel TV ke, utne nakhre biwi ke,this one asserts that Anu Malik is losing his touch.  Rahul Vaidya, making his playback debut sounds confident but could develop his own style, lest he be slotted as a Sonu Nigam clone. The other new voice Prajakta Shukre is ordinary. The brighter spot of the album is the snappy Aiyaashi, composed by DJ Aqueel and sung by Shaan. That apart, musically this one's Shoddy No. 1.

Garam Masala

It's young and peppy and it's composed by Pritam, who's fast becoming synonymous with quality scores. All the tracks are fast paced and the pace never slackens. Ada , sung splendidly by Sonu Nigam is immediately catchy.

Unpretentious throughout, this album's certainly superior to Priyadarshan's musically clunky  Hera Pheri and Hulchul.

The Sisterhood of Travelling Pants

Here's an American teen fantasy directed by Ken Kwapis. If you relish corn then you just might connect to this coming-of-age story revolving around four girls.. And hear this, they buy a mysterious pair of pants which fits all of them, despite their extremely differerent shapes and sizes. Also, these pants make them feel wonderful, special and all that, and matters become kinda funny and dramatic when they take off on a vacation separately. Fresh faces Amber Tamblyn and Alexis Bedel are eye candy. Try if you want to feel silly.

Imagining Argentina

Cut back to Buenos Aires during the 1970s. Political tumult led to a series of abudctions and murders. And the lives of a theatre director and his wife are in deep trouble when she writes an inflammatory editorial. She's imprisoned and that's when he develops the ability to predict the future and can see the fate that awaits his wife. The implausible storyline is redeemed by taut direction by Christopher Hampton and of course, it helps a lot that the lead players are the charismatic Antonio Banderas and Emma Thompson. Worth a try.
