Prepare for television’s first-of-its-kind reality show with wrestlers, that’s slated to feature Khali
For the first time in the history of Indian television, audiences will be treated to a reality show that involves international professional wrestlers who’ll be battling it out among themselves to clinch the top spot. DNA has learnt that the television channel which is putting the show together is trying to rope in Khali alias Dalip Singh (a former World Champion) to be one of the contestants on the show.
A source close to the development says, “Wrestling has a huge connect in India with many fans who dedicatedly follow the game. This reality show will be shot entirely in South Africa and many professional South African wrestlers will take part in it. The channel is also looking to rope in some big names from WWE to participate in the show. They are in talks with Khali and are trying hard to take him as the show will be aired in India – Khali’s presence will get people connected to the show.”
The insider adds, “The final blueprint of the show is still being worked out. But the wrestlers that have been confirmed so far are Kilimanjaro, Nightmare, Skull, Fury, Exterminator, Daemon, Kwaicokid, Blacksmith, Murat, Jason Steele, Tornado and Ananzi. The format of the show will be these men wrestling among themselves and trying to win, but there are lots of twists and turns as it is not all about wrestling. Some parts of the show will be scripted and the other will completely flow on its own. The channel is trying to create new heroes for the Indian market.”
Ashvini Yardi, programming head of Colors, remained tight-lipped about the show but confirmed, “It is a fusion concept where drama meets reality, muscle power meets willpower, anger meets angst, confidence meets forced composure, force meets fear and fate meets about-face. It’s one show where you’ll be forced to take sides. Unfortunately, I cannot reveal anything on the format because we are still in the planning stages.”
