At least 7-8 passengers traveling in the Hazrat Nizamuddin-Ambala Cantt passenger train claimed that their valuables were snatched at knife point by several unidentified men during the early hours on Friday. The police are raiding the cluster settlements near the railway tracks to look for the robbers.

According to the police, the victims claimed that their valuables were snatched around 3:15 am. The passengers had raised an alarm and called the Railway Protection Force (RPF), which started investigations into the matter.

Shashi Kumar, Senior Divisional Security Commissioner RPF said that a message was received that a few unknown people barged into the coach and snatched mobile phones, cash and other valuable articles. "The incident took place while the train was moving," Kumar said.

Five people have come forward but only one woman gave a written complaint in which she had alleged a theft. "It was based on the complaint of the woman that the Government Railway Police (GRP) has lodged a case. A joint team of RPF and GRP has been formed to nab the criminals," the officer said.

Kumar added that the team is raiding the JJ cluster colony beside the railway tracks. The accused were last seen vanishing into these settlements. "These trains slow down near the spot due to the heavy encroachments close to the tracks, giving an opportunity to the anti-social elements for targeting victims in moving trains," he said.
