A 50-year old woman along with her juvenile son were apprehended for killing a septuagenarian couple in South- East Delhi's Mount Kailash society in Amar Colony area. The juvenile stayed with the bodies of the couple for 24 hours before fleeing from the house. The semi-decomposed bodies of the senior citizen couple were discovered at their residence on Saturday morning after a relative informed the Delhi Police that their was no response to the phone calls made to them.

The deceased identified as Virender Kumar Khaneja (77) and his wife Sarla (72) were found dead in the same room, with Sarla's hand tied in the front with a religious stole. DNA had earlier reported that a string made out of cloths was also lying around her neck indicating that she was strangled to death.

Virender was also found in the same room on the other side of the bed with head injury and blood mark on his head. Their elder son Amit is a doctor and settled in USA while her younger son Sumit passed away due to illness. The police have taken permission from the son via e-mail so that the post-mortem of the deceased can be conducted and exact cause of death and time can be ascertained.

Chinmoy Biswal, DCP, South-East stated that Sarla had employed a domestic help identified as Salma (50) who would visit her house twice a week to massage her. "On January 18, Salma reached the house for her work. As per plan she had informed her son to come after she enters so that he has an easy access to enter the house. Salma let him in after which he hid himself in the house. She left after finishing her work following which Virender left the house around noon for some chores," said Biswal.

It was only Sarla and the 17-year old boy who were present in the house, the boy then threatened her and asked her to hand him over the cash and valuables. The accused boy told the police that Sarla told him that it was Virender who knew where the cash was. He then tied her hands and allegedly strangled her to death around 4:30pm. Later on Virender returned home around 8:30pm. He rung the bell but when there was no response he opened the house with his set of keys only to find the juvenile accused standing inside the house. Virender pointed towards the room where an iron safe with cash and jewellery was kept. The 17-year old took the safe in its custody and then strangled him as well.

"He stayed in the house untill January 19 morning to avoid being checked by the guards in the night. He left on January 19 morning from the building. His entry and exit has been verified with the help of the footages from the CCTV cameras. He can be seen wearing a black cap and exiting the building with a bag on his back in the morning," added Biswal.

The police have recovered cash around Rs 8,98,900 and some jewellery on the instance on the accused. Salma was aware that the couple was living alone and had a stable financial background and even had cash in the house.
