England Test captain Ben Stokes on Tuesday has opted out from the T20 World Cup, which will take place in the USA and West Indies in June, as per a statement from the England Cricket Board (ECB).

Stokes explained that he wants to focus on regaining his fitness to bowl effectively, not just for the upcoming Test series against West Indies and Sri Lanka, but for all future cricket matches. He emphasized that he's working hard to become a fully capable all-rounder in every format of the game. To achieve this goal, Stokes has decided to skip both the IPL and the T20 World Cup. He hopes that by making this sacrifice, he can ensure his long-term performance in cricket.

Reflecting on his recent Test series in India, Stokes says, 'The recent Test tour of India highlighted how far behind I was from a bowling point of view after my knee surgery and nine months without bowling. I’m looking forward to playing for Durham in the County Championship before the start of our Test summer.'

'I wish Jos, Motty and all the team the best of luck in defending our title.' Stokes added.

The defending champions are scheduled to begin their campaign on June 4 against Scotland at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. Following the opening match, they will face Australia, Oman, and Namibia in group matches in Barbados and Antigua.
