Shreyas Iyer, the Indian batsman, showcased his mettle with a commanding century in the 2nd ODI match against Australia, marking a triumphant return after recovering from a back injury. His exceptional performance illuminated the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Sunday, September 24, as he dominated the Australian bowlers with finesse.

Iyer's jubilant celebration upon reaching his century resonated through the stadium. However, speaking during the mid-innings break, he candidly revealed that he had been battling cramps during his innings, which eventually led to his dismissal after scoring 105 runs from 90 balls.

"The cramp definitely did stop me from celebrating to the fullest, and even after that, I realized my top hand was not working when I was caught and bowled. My mindset was to play well; I was not focusing on hitting the ball hard but rather just trying to time it well,"

Anticipated to play a pivotal role in India's plans for the ODI World Cup 2023, Iyer's century serves as a reassuring sign for the team management. He also spoke about his partnership with Shubman Gill, expressing his satisfaction with their combined effort.

"Thankfully we were able to take that momentum and convert it into a big partnership. Both of us laid a good platform for the rest of the team to come in and express themselves well. Definitely, I got a great start, and after that, I was playing the ball on merit, and then Shubman started playing well; we were trying to maintain a good rhythm," Shreyas further added.

Iyer and Shubman's centuries propelled India to their highest-ever total against Australia in the ODI format. With every Indian batsman, except Ruturaj Gaikwad, making valuable contributions, the team displayed an impressive collective effort.

"Every individual stepped up well today. When I went into bat, there was variable bounce, and when it was pitching behind the 9-meter line, it was stopping and bouncing a bit more. When you play each ball on merit, you can set up a good total. It is not going to be easy, but it's now time for the bowlers to step up and get us the win," Iyer concluded, emphasizing the importance of a cohesive team effort.
