Former Team India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has pledged to help 5000 people through an NGO named Apnalaya amid coronavirus lockdown across the nation.

Tendulkar will be bearing the expense to provide ration to those unfortunate people for an entire month.

The NGO took to Twitter to confirm the news and thanked the legendary batsman for his heartwarming gesture.

"Thank you, @sachin_rt for stepping in & helping Apnalaya help the ones suffering the most during this lockdown. He will be taking care of the ration of around 5000 people for a month. There are many more individuals who need your support, people! Donate below!", Apnalaya posted on Twitter.

Responding to this tweet, Tendulkar wrote: "My best wishes to @ApnalayaTweets to continue your work in the service of the distressed and needy. Keep up your good work"

The rapid spread of the virus worldwide has started seeing its serious impacts. India has imposed a 21-day lockdown till April 14 to combat the spread of novel coronavirus.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), there are 6412 confirmed cases of coronavirus cases in the country and 199 fatalities have been reported.
