The Raje government, while inching towards the final leg of its tenure, scored a victorious goal in law and order with the encounter of gangster Anandpal Singh.
The elimination of the gangster will also silence the opposition, particularly independent MLA Hanuman Beniwal, who used to take the government to task for its failure to arrest the gangster. However, with the encounter the secrets of his alleged nexus with a powerful cabinet minister too have been buried. The dreaded gangster’s escape for the last one and half year had become a major issue for the opposition parties to corner the government.
Anandpal’s days on the run gave former chief minister Ashok Gehlot, opposition leader Rameshwer Dudi and Beniwal, the ammunition to attack the government. Many a times the ministers had verbal spat with opposition MLAs when the issue was raked up in the assembly. But the encounter has changed the entire scenario, leaving opposition with no ammunition. Among the allegations leveled against the government, Beniwal even claimed that due to alleged patronage of Transport Minister Younus Khan the entire state police force is showing no inclination to arrest the gangster. However, the minister had denied all the allegations, calling them baseless and politically motivated. Beniwal had also publicly claimed that he faces threat to his life from Anandpal and his aides, while Gehlot called his escape a part of conspiracy.But the state police on late Saturday night put to rest all the allegations after killing Anandpal in an encounter at Malasar in Churu.
The political circles were abuzz with the talk that if Anandpal had been captured alive, many of his alleged ties with powerful people would have come to light.
The encounter is being seen as a major relief for the minister as now nothing has been left in Beniwal’s arsenal. Meanwhile, the encounter has been a major boost to state government’s credibility in tackling law and order situation as Anandpal’s escape was seen as a big blot.
