Sheikh Nahayan was the guest of honour at the inaugural of the WION Global Summit in Dubai.
South Asia as a region holds enormous economic promise and will require hard work and cooperation to emerge as a key pillar of the global economy, UAE's Minister of Tolerance, His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan said in his inaugural address at the WION Global Summit in Dubai on Wednesday.
"The growing importance of India in South Asian economy and global importance requires a strategic approach and unleashing the huge importance it has to offer," said Sheikh Nahayan.
He spoke of the importance of creating suitable conditions for successful cooperation in business and economic development in South Asia. "Unleashing the power of the region requires hard work, cooperation and competitiveness to create and maintain growing global economies," he said.
Sheikh Nahayan was the guest of honour at the WION Global Summit, which opened on Wednesday morning on the theme 'Unleashing the Power of South Asia'. He welcomed the summit as a step towards improving the environment across South Asia for cooperation on business and investment.
He underlined the need for a grand strategy for countries in the region to develop their own capabilities in a way that could also bolster efforts to raise the realisation of the region's economic and human resource potential.
"How to develop a common understanding of the shared challenges and opportunities, how to share globalisation, how to take advantage of an emerging and growing South Asia, how to develop research and capability to allow growth, how to strengthen private sector and use them for national and regional development, and perhaps more importantly how to develop leaders in terms of economic, social and human development," he said, was the key area that South Asian nations need to focus on.
The Emirati cabinet minister also reflected on the close ties that the UAE has with South Asian countries, and pitched his country as a key player in the future of the region. "UAE has good trade cooperation and critical relations with India and all Asian countries… UAE is active in promoting social and economic development in the region and in the world," he said.
