Weather update: Heavy rains to lash in many states; check latest IMD forecast here

Conditions are improving for the Southwest Monsoon to depart from additional areas of Northwest and neighboring West Central India over the next two to three days.

A Low Pressure Area is over the Eastcentral Arabian Sea off the beaches of the Konkan and Goa, according to the most recent weather forecast from the India Meteorological Department, while another Low Pressure Area is over the Northeast and the adjacent Eastcentral Bay of Bengal.

Conditions are improving for the Southwest Monsoon to depart from additional areas of Northwest and neighboring West Central India over the next two to three days.

Up till Sunday, there is a good chance of light to moderately heavy rain, thunder, and lightning across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Gangetic West Bengal. In the meantime, similar weather is expected in Jharkhand from tomorrow through Tuesday and in Odisha through Tuesday.

While similar weather is predicted for Bihar from Sunday through Tuesday as well as Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on Monday and Tuesday.  Over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on September 29, over Gangetic West Bengal on September 30, and over Odisha on September 30, January 1, and February 2, isolated extremely heavy rainfall is very likely.

On September 29th and 30th, 2023, the Andaman Islands are anticipated to see squally weather with winds of 45–55 mph with gusts to 65 mph. 2  South India: On September 29, there is expected to be light to moderate rainfall across much of the country, with isolated heavy rainfall quite possible across the ghat regions of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana.

Karnataka, Kerala, and Mahe will also likely see rainfall between September 29 and October 1. Coastal Kerala and Karnataka are likely to have isolated, extremely heavy rainfall today. West India: On September 29th and October 1st, Konkan-Goa and Madhya Maharashtra are anticipated to see light to moderately heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning.

On September 29th and 30th, sporadic, very heavy rainfall is highly expected over south Konkan - Goa. In Central India, from September 29 to October 2, there will likely be mild to moderate amounts of rain, thunder, and lightning, with a few isolated areas of heavy rain.

Northeast India: On September 29, 30, January 1 & 2, October 1 & 2, and October 3 & 4, mild to moderate rain/thunderstorm/lightning with isolated heavy rain quite probable over Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura
