Strong reactions have been pouring in from all quarters after 40 CRPF jawans were killed in a dastardly suicide-bombing attack by Pakistan-based terrorist organisation Jaise-e-Mohammed on February 14 in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district. Noted Bollywood actor Jaaved Jaaferi too expressed his grief and anger at the incident.

He wrote: "They call themselves ‘Jaish e Mohammed’..what a sham..hiding behind the name of the prophet and indulging in such heinous, inhuman and cowardly acts in the name of islam..And shame on all the religious organisations and governments that indirectly support them with their silence."

When a follower replied to his tweet saying, "Pakistan ka naam toh lo," Jaaved said, "like extreme right wing religious groups spreading hate and riots in India are not India, Jaish e Mohammed is not Pakistan."

This tweet of his irked several on the micro blogging site, who slammed the actor for his views. Taking note of the criticisms, Javed deleted the tweet and also posted an apology saying that his words were misinterpreted. However, the damage was already done as people started sharing screenshot of the concerned tweet, slamming the actor.

"My heartfelt apologies to my friends, followers and fellow Indians who got upset over a tweet of mine. I didn't mean it the way it was interpreted. It was a wrong choice of words. Please read my earlier tweets on my timeline condemning the terrorists and Pakistan before judging [sic]," Jaaved later tweeted.

Jaaved also received flak for his views on Pakistan PM Imran Khan.

He concluded by saying:

In a recent interview with IANS, Jaaved said that in an ideal democracy, diverse opinions should co-exist.

"If my opinion is not similar to that of the popular voice, then calling it anti-national is wrong, and that is certainly not the way the world's largest democracy can function," he said.

"Of course, these people who try to impose their opinion on others and suppress the choice of diverse opinion, are minuscule in number, but unfortunately, they are the noisemakers," he said.

Asked if he is scared of expressing his opinions in this atmosphere, he said, "That's what they want us to do... They want to suppress our voice if it does not match their noise. But I will not do that. I believe in a true democracy, everyone's voice should be heard, a difference of opinion should co-exist and there should not be any discrimination on any level."

On the work front, Jaaved Jaaferi will be next seen on the silver screen in 'Total Dhamaal'.
