BBC licensing staff: outsourcing to Mumbai 'cynical'

LONDON: Workers at the BBC licensing headquarters at Bristol resorted to a strike to protest the outsourcing of work to Mumbai.

About 98 members of the Communication Workers Union went on a 48-hour strike which ended Tuesday night, to protest the outsourcing of work by Capita, which administers the license fee for the BBC.

A Capita spokeswoman said the strike passed off with little impact as alternative arrangements were made and service was not affected.

The union's assistant secretary Andy Furey said the decision by Capita to send work to India was 'cynical'.

Capital has said the outsourcing of work to Mumbai was a cash-saving bid with 35 full-time posts being created there.
